If your Google Business Profile suddenly disappeared, you’re not alone. It’s frustrating, especially if you rely on it for customer calls, directions, or visibility in local search.
If your Google Business Profile has suddenly gone missing, it usually comes down to one of two things: suspension or accidental deletion.
Google can suspend a business profile if it thinks the listing goes against its guidelines. This could happen if there’s missing or inaccurate info, if it looks like the business isn’t eligible, or even if something was flagged by mistake. Suspended profiles won’t appear in search or maps until the issue is reviewed and fixed. You’ll normally see a notice in your account if this happens.
When a GBP vanishes, there is a good chance that it was suspended. If you want to confirm if that is the case, refer to our playbook for Google Business Profile suspensions.
And it’s not just deletions, you can also get suspended just from making changes to the Google account listed as the owner of the GBP. If you’re the primary owner of your Google Business profile, don’t mess with that email unless you’re ready for a headache.
Keeping your info accurate and following Google’s guidelines is the best way to prevent your GBP from disappearing due to suspension.

Accidental deletion is another common reason why your Google Business listing disappeared. These are situations where the GBP vanishes altogether from your GBP dashboard, and/or from search and Google Maps. In this case, you don’t receive a “Suspended” notification. Instead, you log in to your GBP dashboard, and the listing is no longer there.
You accidentally deleted your Google Business listing. We know, it sounds like something that would only happen to the least tech-savvy person in the room, but trust us, it happens way more than you’d think. Especially when email accounts get changed or systems get migrated.
Sometimes, the profile can be removed by mistake. This might happen when someone with access clicks the wrong setting or tries to “remove” something and deletes the whole listing. Believe it or not, this is a common occurrence, especially when email accounts get changed or systems get migrated.
If that’s the case, there’s a short window where you might be able to recover it, so it’s worth checking your email or dashboard for any recent changes.
Accidentally deleting a Google Business listing might sound like something that would only happen to the least tech-savvy person in the room, but it happens far more often than most people realize. It’s especially common when email accounts get changed or systems are migrated.
This kind of issue shows up frequently in the Google Business Profile community. A business can be ranking well, collecting reviews, and building momentum, and then suddenly, the listing disappears without warning. It’s the digital equivalent of watching your favorite TV show get canceled mid-season.
In one example, a used car dealer’s listing vanished after their email provider made a change that altered their account setup, which ended up deleting the Google account that owned the listing. Another situation involved an agency that changed its Google Workspace group. The ownership email stayed the same, but Google treated it as a brand new account, and every profile tied to it was removed.
It’s not just deletions that cause problems. Suspensions can also happen from simple account changes. If you’re the primary owner of a Google Business Profile, avoid changing or migrating the email tied to that listing unless absolutely necessary. Keep it clean, stable, and separate from automated systems. Think of it as the business equivalent of “don’t touch the thermostat.”
If you want a deeper walkthrough of how these issues happen and what to avoid, check out the video above for a full breakdown. It can save you a lot of headaches down the road.
Many people don’t even realize you can delete a listing by mistake. An example that we dealt with recently was a used car dealer whose Google Business Profile disappeared out of nowhere. It turned out their email provider did a migration that changed their email setup, and that ended up deleting the Google account that owned the listing.
And if you think that’s bad, we’ve had an agency change their Google Workspace group. The same ownership email remained, but Google treated it like a brand new account. Result? They lost access to all their profiles. Poof. Google Business Profile is gone.
So what’s the best practice in these situations?
Keep the email tied to your Google Business listing sacred. Don’t use it for automated emails, don’t migrate it to another system. Just keep it as clean as possible and don’t mess with it. It’s the business equivalent of don’t touch the thermostat.
Your business was ranking well, getting reviews, building momentum, and then boom, the listing disappears. It’s like watching your favourite TV show get cancelled mid-season.
If your profile is missing, the first step is to log into your Google Business account and check for any messages or warnings. You can also search for your business name exactly as it appeared on your GBP in Google Maps or Search to see if it still appears. If it’s not there, and you didn’t delete it yourself, you’ll likely need to request reinstatement or contact Google support.
The key piece of information that will make your life so much easier is having the CID number of your listing.
The reason we need the CID number is to help GBP support find the vanished listing so that they can revive it. You may have also created a new listing, not realizing that the original listing contained age-related authority, and Google reviews that you would not want to lose unnecessarily.
The good news is there’s a simple fix:
We’ve already covered the importance of how to find and save the CID number of a GBP if the listing is still live on Google Maps and search. What we’ll cover in this section is how to find the CID number if the listing isn’t live and the listing has disappeared.
Here are the most common methods we use to retrieve a missing listing’s CID number.
The fastest way to find the CID number is to check any software tools that you have added the listing to. Bright Local and Places Scout are great examples that we have used in the past.
There are a few different ways to find the maps CID in Bright Local. One easy way is to navigate to the Google My Business report, find the business you want the CID for, and hover over the name, right-click, and copy the link address. This will give you the full CID needed when contacting GBP support. Since these reports are saved, the CID is available even after your listing has vanished from Google.
Places Scout is another tool that saves the map’s CID number once you set up a ranking report. If you have set up a ranking report, finding the saved CID number is simple. Pull up a saved geo-grid ranking report and click on one of the map pins. Select “View Keyword SERP Data”

After selecting that, you will be presented with all the listings and their map CID number.

Another creative way to find the map’s CID number is to locate an old social media post on Facebook, a Tweet on Twitter, etc. This has worked on a couple of occasions for us as we have helped businesses locate the missing listing.
Another way to find a missing GBP is to grab the dashboard URL from an email notification Google sent in the past.

Another way to find a missing GBP is to send Google the embed code if you ever embedded the listing onto a page on the website. Even if the embed Google map no longer looks right since the listing vanished, you can grab the code from the website where it would still be present.
The map CID of a GBP is a critical piece of data if you want to do local SEO at a high level. Make sure that you have a process to record the CID somewhere in case you ever need it. If that process gets missed, as it often does, you have some options for getting creative and finding it on your own.
What is your process for keeping track of the CID number? Have you come across another creative way to find it if your listing vanishes?
