Does Google Allow Two Business Profiles at the Same Address?

TL;DR:

  • Google can allow multiple Business Profiles at the same address, even for service area businesses.
  • The businesses must operate in completely different industries with different categories and services.
  • A plumber and house cleaner can share an address, while two similar landscaping businesses generally cannot.
  • Different customer intent also helps determine whether separate listings are appropriate.
  • If the second business could simply be another service page on the existing website, it likely does not qualify for its own listing.

I want to cover some guidelines around business profiles that are often misunderstood.

Recently, a user on Reddit said they had a landscape construction company and they wanted to start a landscape design business with a different name at the same address. I replied and clarified that this set up would not be allowed. But that doesn’t mean that you’re never allowed two listings at the same address.

I actually reached out to Google for clarification on this and it turns out Google does allow multiple businesses at the same address, even if they are service area businesses, but only if they’re in completely different industries.

For example:

  • A plumber and a house cleaner? Totally fine.
  • A landscaper and a slightly different kind of landscaper? Nope.

Two listings at the same address are allowed when the businesses:

  • Operate in completely different industries
  • Have different categories
  • Offer different services
  • Target different customer intents

So in this other Reddit thread where they wanted a landscaping business and a cleaning business would be allowed.

Takeaway: If your second business feels like it could just be another page on your existing website, you probably don’t qualify for a separate listing.

  1. Working with auto dealerships, they're actually in the same industry despite having two totally different corporations – one for car sales, the other for parts and service. We advise our clients to update their postal address with a suite or office number for each company that's registered. We haven't run into issues with Google at this point, and I don't believe it violates the terms of service but we've not had luck in getting feedback yet.

  2. I work with lawyers in LA and it's common for one office suite to have multiple lawyers, like 10 in one in Century City.. it's allowed even if the industry is the same. Type of lawyer needs to be different to avoid conflict of interest obviously.
