Using ALL CAPS in Title Tags: The SEO Tactic You’re Ignoring

Want to grab attention on the SERPs without spending a dime? Here’s a surprisingly effective SEO trick we’ve tested for years – one that feels like it should be filed under “things not to do”– but actually works like magic:

ALL CAPS in your title tags.

Sounds obnoxious? Maybe. But let’s dig into why this little tactic has delivered real results for businesses we work with and how you can use it to boost clicks.

Why We Started Using ALL CAPS (Blame Yelp and TripAdvisor)

I know what you’re thinking. Writing in all caps online is like yelling at someone. But we didn’t pull this idea out of nowhere.

We started noticing something weird on sites like Yelp and TripAdvisor: They were consistently using ALL CAPS in their title tags.

🎯 And they weren’t doing it just for fun.

That pattern made us curious. If big sites were doing it at scale, maybe there was something behind it.

Our First Test: Lawn Care Case Study

We tested this idea with a local lawn care business.

🔍 Original Title Tag
Something like: “Best Lawn Care Company in Los Angeles”

🔊 Updated Title Tag
We swapped in: “BEST Lawn Care Company in Los Angeles” (with BEST in ALL CAPS)

The Results?

Even though the business was still ranking below competitors, the click-through rate (CTR) increased significantly.

It was like giving their title tag a shot of espresso. More clicks, more traffic, and more attention.

Another Test: From “Top-Rated” to “BEST”

Next, we tried the same tactic on another client by changing their title tags from “Top-Rated” to “BEST” in caps.

📈 CTR only increased by 0.05%… but
👉 That tiny lift on just five pages translated to 159 more clicks for just 5 pages for 6 months.

Now imagine that at scale because they had thousands of these pages. That’s a serious bump in traffic.

Other SEOs Are Seeing the Same Thing

We’re not alone. Others in the SEO space have confirmed similar results.

  • SEMrush ran a split test and found that title tags with ‘BEST’ in all caps performed 7% better than those with lower case “Best.”
    👉 Read their case study
  • SearchPilot saw a 14% increase in mobile traffic using ALL CAPS in title tags.

Why It Works

ALL CAPS visually pop on the SERP.

Google’s search results are cluttered and competitive. Something as simple as “BEST” in uppercase can act like a visual megaphone, pulling the eye toward your listing.

This isn’t just a formatting trick, it’s a way to stand out.

Should You Try It?

Absolutely. It’s easy to test and quick to implement. Just remember:

✅ Use sparingly (don’t SHOUT the whole title).
✅ Test different variations: BEST, GUIDE, etc.
✅ Watch your CTR over time.
