The Ridiculously Easy SEO Trick You’re Probably Not Using Enough: Internal Links

Let’s talk about something simple. Like, really simple.

So simple that when I say it, you might roll your eyes and think, “That’s it?”

But trust me, internal links are still one of the easiest and most effective ways to improve your local SEO.

Wait, Internal Links Still Work in 2025?

Yep. Linking to other pages on your own website still works. And it’s not just theory, we’ve tested this over and over again.

One of my favorite examples was from a lawyer’s website. We made one internal link update. Just one.

And guess what? That page saw an immediate ranking improvement.

Not All Pages Are Equal (Use the Strong Ones)

This part’s important. You can’t just link from any random page and expect results. Google puts more weight on certain pages.

The pages that:

  • Get lots of organic traffic.
  • Have a ton of high-quality backlinks.

These are what we call authority pages. And they’re your secret weapon.

Linking from one of those pages to a less-visible page is like handing over some of that trust. Think of it like a “page popularity vote” that actually moves the needle.

Internal Links Help Users Too

This isn’t just about Google. Internal links help real people find the stuff they care about.

Think of them like little signposts that guide visitors through your site:

  • You’re reading about service A? Great, here’s service B that pairs with it.
  • You landed on a blog post? Cool, here’s the related service page to learn more.

You’re not just keeping users engaged, you’re pointing them toward conversions.

How to Use Internal Links the Right Way

Here’s how we recommend doing it:

  1. Find your authority pages
Check your top-performing content in Google Search Console or GA4.
  2. Look for natural connections
Does your blog post mention a service or product you offer? Link it.
  3. Use descriptive anchor text
Don’t use “click here.” Use something that describes what the page is about.
  4. Keep it clean
Don’t overdo it. A few solid links are better than a dozen junky ones.
